Stacy Tuschl is a speaker, business coach, and the owner of The Academy of Performing Arts in Wisconsin. She is the author of the book “Is Your Business Worth Saving?” where she reveals proven strategies for pulling entrepreneurs out of a rut and launching them toward business success.

I recently got back from an industry specific event and it was such a great refresher. It was also a big wake up call because I realized that I needed to really stay on top of the systems that get used in my business. We’ve all heard people say work on your business, not in your business, and I make that a reality. However, systems can get really dated and not as effective when you aren’t the one physically doing it anymore. So all of sudden you watch someone do something they way you said to do it and you realized that the system is two years old and it needs updating.

Some highlights include:

You need to be involved in industry specific events as well as events that deal with a bunch of different industries. At industry specific events, you will learn best practices for your industry, but by going to events that deal with multiple industries, you will pick up ideas from other industries that you can implement in your own. Your competition might not have these ideas, so it’s a great way to stand out. (minute 1:00)

I have been very, very busy, personally and professionally, and I slacked a little bit on going to any industry specific events. When I attended one recently, I learned about how important it is to check your systems annually. (minute 3:00)

Even if you can’t attend an event for personal or professional reasons, send someone to the event. Send someone who will take the notes for you and bring back great ideas. But make sure you send the right person. Some employees get overwhelmed and others get excited. (minute 5:00)
